Martha Lambert collection of Glastonbury manuscripts, ca. 1774-1971.

A collection of deeds, legal records, correspondence and newspaper clippings primarily related to the Lambert and Hollister families of Glastonbury, Connecticut, apparently gathered by Martha R. Lambert. Of interest in the collection are a receipt which documents how Isaac N. Hollister paid for a substitute to serve for him in the army, 1863; an advertisement to collect tea from Glastonbury residents and store it securely until Parliament repeals the tea tax, ca. 1774; administrators' deeds, including one for Julia E. Smith; a letter from Melancton Osborn to his parents, written in French, English and Spanish; a letter from Thaddeus Welles to his brother Gideon, 1867; and a letter from Paul Lambert, serving in France during World War I, in 1917, and a typed letter notifying his mother of his death. Other names appearing in the collection are John and Roswell Hollister, Alexander Hollister, Elijah Hollister of Pawlett, Vermont, Franklin G. Hollister, and John Richards Lambert. Also contains autographs of generals A.E. Burnside, U.S. Grant and E.W. McClellan.
